The Icelandic National Election Study (ICENES) serves a fundamental role in research into the political attitudes and behaviour of the Icelandic public. The study was first conducted in 1983 and has since been conducted after all Icelandic parliamentary elections.

ICENES consists of three surveys: a post-electoral voter survey, an electoral campaign survey and a candidate survey. Consistency in question wordings in the post-election voters survey has been maintained throughout the years, making the data comparable both between years and with electoral studies in other countries. The post-electoral voter survey thus forms a database covering the longest timespan with comparable data in social sciences in Iceland.
